What is a Cooperative Agreement?

Cooperative agreements are formal Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education approved agreements between a state higher education institution and a state vocational institution to offer courses leading to an associate in applied science degree (Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, 1997).

The regents state that the College and Technology Center have evaluated the curriculum, teacher credentials, facility, equipment, and assessment of the courses in the agreement.  Furthermore, these criteria have been determined to be equivalent.  While the teaching method or location may be different, the outcomes are equivalent and there is not a need for the student to repeat the competencies learned.

The purpose of an Oklahoma cooperative agreement is to expand student access to Oklahoma educational opportunities with resource –sharing partnerships between institutions of The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education and the state’s vocational and technical education institutions for the benefit of Oklahoma citizens, business, industry, and students.  Cooperative agreements should also strengthen the education and training programs that lead to employment in occupational and technical fields (OSRHE, 1997).
